Lesson 1 · Choosing the process

Day 1 in 30 minutes: collect 5 candidates, score them against 4 criteria, lock in the winner. The foundation of your proof on Friday.

Updated · GIRI 12.80.1

Tonight one task is written on your sheet, and it is the right one. Choose wrong, and everything else can go perfectly while Friday still delivers no proof.

Your 30 minutes today

  1. Walk the shop floor and note 5 candidates. Ask the machine operators: “What annoys you every day?”
  2. Score each candidate against the 4 criteria. See below. 0–4 points.
  3. Lock in the winner and write it down. One task. Not two.

The 4 criteria

  1. Visible. Happens often, done by many. Five times per shift beats once a month.
  2. Painful. Goes wrong, gets explained constantly, costs time. Where nobody complains, no savings impress.
  3. Measurable. “Before X, now Y.” Without a number, your proof is just an opinion.
  4. Short. 5–10 minutes of real work. The proof shows the format, not heroics.
