Lesson 4 · Refining
Day 4 in 30 minutes: 2 colleagues test silently, you close the gaps. That turns Friday into a known success instead of a hope.
Your biggest blind spot is everything you consider obvious. A colleague finds those gaps in 30 seconds. Better today than tomorrow in front of the stakeholders.
Your dress rehearsal
-
Give the QR code to 1–2 colleagues who do not do the task. Real strangers, not people who would figure it out anyway. The link and QR code are available as soon as the instruction is published (Share the link and QR code).
-
Stand by silently and take notes. Where do they hesitate? Where do they scroll back? Every hesitation is a missing detail.
-
Fix it today. Targeted small fixes, do not overthink: sharpen a text, put an arrow or a circle into the picture, record a step’s picture again (Edit steps, Add markings and symbols).

On a phone, under Mark, you put an arrow, a circle or a number into the picture -
Approve again. Your fixes are a new version. Until it is approved, the testers keep seeing the old one via the QR code. The QR code itself stays the same (Update a published instruction).

After a fix, workers keep seeing version 3 until the new version is approved
Compare: this is what “refined” looks like
Hold your instruction against the example instruction “Example: Set up the clamping fixture”, if your workspace has it (Bootcamp overview): short titles, details in the description, an arrow, a circle and numbers in the picture, one warning. Same clarity? More in Good work instructions: the example.
