Addressing the skilled labour shortage
Applicants are scarce and young people avoid production. GIRI lowers the entry barrier for career changers and staff from abroad.

The baby boomers are leaving, and young people are not coming into production. Anyone who has tried to hire a machine operator in the last five years knows it: the job advert stays open, applicants are scarce, and the few who do come often do not stay long.
The trigger: how do you recognise it?
- Job adverts for machine operators and workers stay open for months.
- You bring in workers from abroad, with language barriers.
- When you do find someone, onboarding takes twice as long as it used to.
- Staff costs rise because you fall back on agency workers.
How GIRI addresses it
Lower the entry barrier: new people do not have to learn for years first. They follow the instruction on screen, step by step with a photo or a short video.
Work in many languages: workers from abroad do not have to learn the local language first to follow the instruction. They choose their language in the instruction, for example Polish, Turkish or Romanian. GIRI machine-translates it with DeepL.
A modern workplace: young applicants see a digital tool on the plant tour instead of ring binders.
Typical users
- Mid-sized companies with chronic vacancies in production
- Industries with high staffing needs (food, packaging, logistics)
- Sites with many employees from abroad
What you want to avoid
- Assuming more money will solve it. It will not, the pool is simply smaller.
- Carrying on with the old training approach. It is too expensive and depends too much on individuals.
- Tackling language barriers with language courses alone. The instruction has to be understandable now, not in a year.
What to measure
Record the values before you start and compare them after a few weeks.
- Onboarding time: days until new starters carry out a task on their own.
- Questions: how often new starters have to fetch experienced colleagues. Questions about the instruction itself come in via Question or suggestion (Handle and adopt feedback).
- Errors in the first weeks: deviations and rework. With the checklist on, reported deviations appear in the job-done log.
How to do it in GIRI
-
Record the tasks you most urgently need people for, step by step with a photo or a short clip (Record steps with the camera).
-
Put arrows, numbers and safety signs straight onto the picture, so the step is clear even with little text. GIRI does not translate text in the picture, so explanations belong in the step description (Add markings and symbols).
-
Once the instruction is approved, put the QR code up at the workstation. Workers open the instruction without signing in (Share the link and QR code).

An instruction’s link and QR code, workers open it without signing in -
New starters choose their own language in the instruction. Have important texts checked once by a native speaker. If a translation is wrong, rephrase the original text (Instructions in other languages).

If GIRI has activated training for your workspace, the matrix shows who has been trained for what (Training in GIRI).
